Fare-Free Transit Rides on New Year's Eve!

From the State Capitol, to the international border, California transit agencies will be offering no-worry, fare-free rides.

SACRAMENTO, Calif.–Because of its mission to advance systems thinking and the Triple Bottom Line, the California Green Academy (“CalGreen”), and its sustainable transport blog TransportiCA, reminds everyone, many California transportation agencies will be offering completely fare-free / no-worry transit rides, beginning early-evening New Year’s Day, and lasting until early-morning, New Year’s Day 2020. Participating transit agencies (as of this release) include: A.C. Transit, Santa Monica’s Big Blue Bus, Caltrain, Fairfield & Suisun Transit, Golden Empire Transit, LA Metro, Long Beach Transit, the Orange County Transportation Authority, Riverside Transit Authority, Monterey-Salinas Transit, Sacramento Regional Transit, SamTrans, San Diego MTS, and San Francisco MUNI. (An current list can be found here.) “Once again, CalGreen is very excited to see the agencies involved, providing fare-free service for New Year’s Eve, and subsequent celebrations. This simple transportation option combines environmentally friendly and no-hassle travel, while also improving overall traffic safety, for yourself, and everyone else, participating in late-night festivities,” remarked Greg Justice, CalGreen’s Chief Sustainability Officer. Founded in May 2015, TransportiCA is CalGreen’s flagship program, focused on sustainable transport: “Mobility meeting the Triple Bottom Line” (social responsibility, financial security / obligation, as well as, ecological stewardship). TransportiCA reminds everyone, it is a violation of 49 CFR §374.201 and California Penal Code Section 640(b), to smoke, vape, and/or drink alcohol, at transportation facilities, transit centers, on transit vehicles, and within twenty feet of transit stops.
