CalGreen Congratulates Simone P. Joyaux, Honored as an AFP Distinguished Fellow

Joyaux is one of three inducted into AFP’s First Class of 2019 Fellows, Recognized for significant leadership contributions to professional philanthropy and fundraising.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – With its mission to advance systems thinking and the Triple Bottom Line, the California Green Academy (“CalGreen”), congratulates international expert, author, and professor of fundraising and philanthropy, Simone P. Joyaux (pictured above), for being honored in the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ (“AFP”) 2019 First Cohort of Distinguished Fellows. Organized 21 June 1960, AFP–originally chartered as the “National Society of Fund Raisers”–was established to, “aid fundraisers in the performance of their professional duties, unite those engaged in the profession of fundraising, to promote and maintain high standards of public service and conduct,” as well as, many other objectives. As noted on AFP’s website, “The Distinguished Fellows program [“FAFP”] and Honorary Fellows program (for those who are not members of AFP) spotlights individuals who have made significant leadership contributions to the philanthropic and fundraising professions, and who will continue to advance AFP’s mission and vision through their volunteer and advisory work.” “The California Green Academy could not be prouder of Simone. She was CalGreen’s first member, and now serves as the Advisory Council Vice Chair. Having read her numerous texts in my master’s program, and now having the honor of witnessing her unwavering leadership and passion, I can’t think of anyone else who so rightly deserves, and continuously works for, this incredible distinction,” says Greg Justice, CalGreen’s Chief Sustainability Officer (CEO/ED). Although recognized internationally by AFP, Joyaux has been an inspiration to nonprofit professionals in California, as well. “Simone is an icon in the fund development world for her passionate commitment to bettering the profession, and I can think of no-one more deserving than she,” remarked Dr. Chandra Alexandre, CFRE, MBA–Executive Director of Community Action Marin, University of San Francisco fundraising and philanthropy professor, as well as, president, Golden Gate (Greater San Francisco Bay) AFP Chapter. As stated in AFP Global’s official release, “Joyaux began her career in 1975, serving as executive director of a small nonprofit in Lansing, Mich., and then as chief development officer for Rhode Island’s Trinity Repertory Company. In January 2019, Joyaux began her 32nd year as a consultant specializing in fund development, strategic planning, and board development/governance. She presents at conferences worldwide and teaches in the Master’s Program for Philanthropy and Development at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.” In addition to her FAFP honor, Joyaux was also in the first class of Advanced Certified Fund Raising Executive (“ACFRE”) recipients, as well as, one of the first (and few, worldwide) to have earned the fundraising Advanced Diploma (“AdvDip”)–jointly awarded by AFP, and the U.K.’s Institute of Fundraising. Recipients were provided the FAFP honor during the Closing General Session of AFP’s International Conference in San Antonio, taking place Tuesday, 02 April. Other Fellows honored included Charlotte Rhodes, MS, CAHP, ACFRE, and Vern Snyder, ACFRE.
