Jan Gehl's and Dr. Birgitte Svarre's How to Study Public Life and Ghel's Cities for People are TransportiCA's November Book Club Selections

November 2, 2018

SACRAMENTO, Calif.–With its mission to advance systems thinking and the Triple Bottom Line, the California Green Academy (“CalGreen”), and its sustainable transportation blog TransportiCA, are proud to announce How to Study Public Life, by Jan Gehl and Dr. Birgitte Svarre (pictured below), and Gehl’s Cities for People, as November’s Book Club selections.

Published in October 2013, How to Study Public Life emphasizes urban planning’s need to return to a focus of capturing “life in a city,” sharing over 50 years of urban design experiences between Gehl and Svarre.  Released in September 2010, Cities for People has become a pinnacle read for urban planning scholars and practitioners, emphasizing a human-centered approach, and forgoing the traditional auto-focused city design.

“November is the first month with two books featured, as both publications have become fundamental in human-centric planning and design, and are included on many ‘must read’ lists,” stated Greg Justice, CalGreen’s Chief Sustainability Officer (CEO/ED), and TransportiCA’s Founder and Editor.

Founded in May 2015, TransportiCA is CalGreen’s flagship program,  focusing on the education and promotion of sustainable transportation: “Mobility meeting the Triple Bottom Line.”  TransportiCA's most popular feature is the monthly Book Club, with every publication embodying the elements of sustainable transportationsocial responsibility, financial security, and environmental stewardship.  The Book Club also features a contest with questions about the author’s professional life, with the winner receiving a copy.  For more information, please visit the Book Club’s website.
