Melissa and Chris Bruntlett's "Building the Cycling City" is TransportiCA's Octobe

SACRAMENTO, Calif.–With its mission to advance systems thinking and the Triple Bottom Line, the California Green Academy (“CalGreen”), and its sustainable transportation blog TransportiCA, is proud to announce Building the Cycling City: The Dutch Blueprint for Urban Vitality, by Melissa and Chris Bruntlett (pictured above), as TransportiCA’s October Book Club selection.

Using writing, photography, film, and the power of social media, the Bruntlett’s communicate a more-human image of multi-modal transportation; one in which greatly promotes the public health, environmental, and social benefits of walking, cycling, and public transit. Further, the couples’ goal is improving on the significant strides already made in many cities, while creating a more open and welcoming environment, for residents and visitors alike.

TransportiCA is very proud to feature the Bruntlett’s amazing publication, given the massive resurgence of bicycling across the nation, and by such a variety of age groups. Building the Cycling City provides many real and easy-to-understand best practices for utilizing the bicycle as one’s primary form of transport, even in North American cities and large urban areas, and explains pragmatically how this mobility form concurrently addresses other major concerns–obesity, climate change, congestion, social equity, and so forth,” stated Greg Justice, CalGreen’s Chief Sustainability Officer (CEO/ED), TransportiCA’s Founder and Editor, and a life-long bicyclist (c.1988).

Founded in May 2015, TransportiCA is CalGreen’s flagship program, focusing on the education and promotion of sustainable transportation: “Mobility meeting the Triple Bottom Line.” TransportiCA's most popular feature is the monthly Book Club, with every publication embodying the elements of sustainable transportationsocial responsibility, financial security, and environmental stewardship. The Book Club also features a contest with questions about the author’s professional life, with the winner receiving a signed copy. For more information, please visit the Book Club’s website, and contest questions can be found here.
