Statement on the passing of Kofi Annan, former U.N. Secretary-General and Nobel Laureate
The California Green Academy has issued the following statement on the passing of Kofi A. Annan, 7th U.N. Secretary-General and 2001 Nobel Peace Prize awardee:
"Secretary-General Annan's accolades are many and profound - the first African U.N. Secretary-General, the first Secretary-General to rise from the ranks of U.N. staff, Noble laureate, as well as, decades of celebrated service to the people of Africa, and later the world. The lesson that stands out the most will be his tireless campaign to remind the world, even in this new millennium, the foundation of the U.N. and member states must be the continuation of peacekeeping, remembering that people and communities matter the most in such efforts, and that human rights cannot be sacrificed in any so-called 'war on terror.'"
