CalGreen Commends Voters for Passage of Prop. 69

Voters overwhelmingly support protection of transportation funds, in addition to increased regional infrastructure funding, and safeguarding the State’s Cap-and-Trade investments.

SACRAMENTO, Calif.–With its mission to advance systems thinking and the Triple-Bottom Line, the California Green Academy (“CalGreen”) commends voters for protecting transportation funds with the landslide passage of Proposition 69 (“Prop. 69”), in Tuesday’s primary election.

With nearly 81%, Prop. 69 was the second-highest supported measure on the ballot and joined two other measures obtaining a majority support in all 58 counties. (See map on right.)

“Prop. 69’s landslide passage affirms what most Californians know: transportation infrastructure and investment in the state is far behind, and we are tired of the funding available being diverted for other purposes. With the public’s massive support, we hope voters remain committed to this cause–if a referendum of Senate Bill 1 qualifies for the November ballot, and we cannot thank enough the California Transit Association, Alliance for Jobs, TransForm, and the California State Conference NAACP for their amazing dedication to Prop. 69,” remarked Greg Justice, CalGreen's Chief Sustainability Officer (CEO/ED).

Prop. 69 extends constitutional protections to new revenues generated by Senate Bill 1, not currently protected; guarantees transportation funds can only be used for transportation improvement purposes; as well as, does not raise taxes, as it protects transportation taxes and fees already paid-for. Additionally, CalGreen also commends voters for their rejection of the corporate-funded Prop. 70, a measure compromising California’s Cap-and-Trade investments, and also thanks Bay Area voters for their support of Regional Measure 3, securing much-needed infrastructure investment.
