Welcome to CalGreen Academy!
The California Green Academy ("CalGreen") is a domestic nonprofit dedicated to the research and implementation of systems-thinking and the Triple-Bottom Line in business, energy and transport. CalGreen was incorporated to centralize three existing sustainability-based programs overseen separately:
1) TransportiCA: a news source for sustainable transportation; 2) Sustainable Sacramento: a green business association for California's Capital region; and, 3) Transportation and the Triple-Bottom Line: an annual transportation conference premised on financial, equitable and environmental perspectives.
The Triple-Bottom Line ("TBL") is quickly becoming the universal maxim of sustainable business operations. Developed by John Elkington in his 1998 book Cannibals with Forks: The Triple Bottom Line of 21st Century Business, TBL is defined as, "An addition of social and environmental values to the traditional economic measures of a corporation or organization’s success. Triple Bottom Line accounting attempts to describe the social and environmental impact of an organization’s activities, in a measurable way, to its economic performance in order to show improvement or to make evaluation more in-depth" (Dictionary of Sustainable Management).
Besides the aforementioned programs, CalGreen is also developing "Transport College" - a survey conference of introductory transportation planning, policy and engineering, as well as, the "Journal of Transportation and the Triple-Bottom Line" - an academic publication with a focus on student research.
We thank you for taking the time to learn about our organization, and wish you all the best in your continued education of sustainability!
