"Transport Beyond Oil" is February's TransportiCA Book Club Selection

SACRAMENTO, Calif.–With its mission to advance systems thinking and the Triple Bottom Line, the California Green Academy (“CalGreen”), and its sustainable transportation blog TransportiCA, are proud to announce the Island Press anthology Transport Beyond Oil: Policy Choices for a Multimodal Future, edited by Drs. John L. Renne, AICP, and Willard “Billy” M. Fields, as the February 2019 Book Club selection. Published in March 2013, Transport Beyond Oil profiles how we can significantly reduce our addiction to oil and other carbon-intensive fuels. With transportation representing 70% of global oil use, the authors employ quantitative data and fact-based approaches, exhibiting just how smarter transportation–accompanied with transit-oriented development, alternative fuel use, better mass transit, and many other transformative choices–can dramatically cut the world’s carbon impact and unsustainable energy use. “Transport Beyond Oil is a ‘who’s who’ of sustainable transportation and planning leaders, whose research is sorely needed in our public policy,” stated Greg Justice, CalGreen’s Chief Sustainability Officer (CEO/ED). Dr. Renne is an Associate Professor for the Urban & Regional Planning and Urban Design programs, and the Director of the Center for Urban and Environmental Solutions, at Florida Atlantic University. With a focus on resilient communities through better transportation and land-use planning, Dr. Fields currently instructs public policy and public administration, as an Associate Professor of Political Science, at Texas State University. Founded in May 2015, TransportiCA is CalGreen’s flagship program, focusing on the education and promotion of sustainable transportation: “Mobility meeting the Triple Bottom Line.” TransportiCA's most popular feature is the monthly Book Club, with every publication embodying the elements of sustainable transportation–social responsibility, financial security, and environmental stewardship. The Book Club features a contest about the author’s professional life, with the winner receiving a copy. For additional information, please visit the Book Club’s webpage.
