CalGreen / TransportiCA introduce the "Major Lies of Prop 6"

With the election less than eight days away, and the amount of misinformation only increasing, CalGreen provides the facts of Prop 6, and how the proposition will harm transportation statewide.

SACRAMENTO, Calif.–With its mission to advance systems thinking and the Triple Bottom Line, the California Green Academy (“CalGreen”), and its sustainable transportation program TransportiCA, have introduced the “Major Lies of Prop 6,” a new webpage providing objective facts and figures, supporting the “No on Prop 6” position. CalGreen’s Board has previously determined the proposition, “an unparalleled attack on transportation safety, especially for public transportation riders and transit-dependent communities,” as well as, “an inherently well-funded political assault on the environment.”

If approved, Prop 6 repeals the “Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017” (“Senate Bill 1”), raising $54 billion for transportation investment over the next decade, while also dedicating sizeable and historic funding to active and sustainable transportation. In addition to Senate Bill 1’s repeal, Prop 6 is a massive “job killer,” eliminating an estimated 68,000+ jobs, and an annual economic impact of $18.3 billion–immediately with its passage. Further, 6,500 local safety and transportation improvement projects–currently underway–would be stopped by Caltrans and local transportation authorities, statewide, with more funding cut by the State’s transportation commission–as occurred in 2016.

“The Yes Campaign’s statements are easily–may I even say, effortlessly–invalidated by Senate Bill 1’s existing statutory language, in addition to, Article XIX.A of California’s Constitution, and Proposition 69 from June’s primary. Proposition 6 appears to be based mostly on fear, hyperbole, and some facts that have nothing do with SB1. The Major Lies of Prop 6 provides objective and verified statements in opposition to this incredibly dangerous and irresponsible proposition,” stated Greg Justice, CalGreen’s Chief Sustainability Officer (CEO/ED).
