CalGreen's Statement on Governor Gavin Newsom's Executive Order, Mandating Face Coverings St

SACRAMENTO, Calif.–With its mission of advancing systems thinking and the Triple Bottom Line, the California Green Academy (“CalGreen”) has issued the following statement, regarding Governor Gavin Newsom’s Executive Order announcement, mandating the statewide use of face coverings in public: “Without any reservation, CalGreen absolutely supports Governor Newsom’s statewide call for face coverings–in public, and in qualified indoor situations, given June’s shocking increases in COVID-19 infections in California, and nationwide, as well as, taking into account the latest research published by the National Academies of Sciences and the Lancet Journal–both utilizing worldwide data and scientifically rigorous research methods, affirming face coverings being able to significantly reduce COVID-19 transmission. ‘Our analysis reveals that the difference with and without mandated face covering represents the determinant in shaping the trends of the pandemic. This protective measure significantly reduces the number of infections’ (PNAS, 2020). CalGreen will continue to promote the Executive Order and related mandates, through our California Transit Mask Information (“CTMI”) webpage, and CalGreen’s website,” stated Greg Justice, CalGreen’s Chief Sustainability Officer (ED). Since early April, CalGreen has provided a free and comprehensive statewide listing of which transit systems require a face covering for service use. CalGreen’s CTMI webpage is updated daily (M-F), with information from public transit systems, county health orders, California’s COVID-19 webpage, as well as, Johns Hopkins University’s Coronavirus Resource Center. Lastly, CalGreen strives to provide readers with the latest, most accurate, and complete information available, and significantly appreciates assistance in sharing updates–including incorrect information on this news release–by emailing here.
