CalGreen P-r-o-u-d-l-y Celebrates "Pride Month" 2019

Despite the many and profound accomplishments achieved by the LGBTQIA community, CalGreen remains cognizant of the challenges ahead, as well as, those developing federally.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – With its mission to advance systems thinking and the Triple Bottom Line, the California Green Academy (“CalGreen”) is proud to take part in observing 2019’s “Pride Month,” an annual, multicultural celebration of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender/Transsexual, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual/Ally (“LGBTQIA”) community, and the legal equality and overall dignity achieved. “The LGBTQIA community–myself proudly included–has made incredible progress in just the last decade, and all Americans should recognize these freedoms, and the continuous path toward ‘Justice for All.’ However, we should also remain aware of the developing challenges and purposeful targeting from this federal administration; no American should live in fear, solely on account of their biological, ethnic, and sexual composite,” remarked Greg Justice, CalGreen’s Chief Sustainability Officer (CEO/ED). Pride Month is celebrated annually in June, paying tribute to New York’s 1969 Stonewall Riots; an event in which police brutality against the LGBTQIA community approached a major turning point in American history. June also holds significance to the community, as the Supreme Court case recognizing marriage equality–Obergefell v. Hodges–was adjudicated on Friday, 26 June 2015. Further, typically held on the last Sunday in June, “Gay Pride Day,” as well, celebrates the many victories of the community, yet also serves as a reminder of the struggles still, recognizing other marginalized people and shared conflicts–mainly, unwarranted/systematic police brutality and violence. Further Pride Month information is available at the GLBT History Museum and the Library of Congress.
